Panel Calls for Reduced Pay and Retiree Benefits
In July, two separate advisory groups reached the same general conclusions regarding what needs to be done to sustain the force. In the nearer term, they say, one step that must be taken is to make military retirees pay more out of pocket for their health care benefit. More

TRICARE Sets Gray Area Retiree Premiums

Officials at the U.S. Transportation Command have launched an improved website at www.Move.mil to assist both the military and Transportation Service Providers in using the Defense Personal Property System. More

VA Health Care Application Made Easier
The Department of Veterans Affairs has removed the signature requirement for Veterans who electronically submit an online 10-10EZ "Application for Health Benefits." More

Stop-Loss Pay Available
Thousands of current and former Airmen remain eligible to receive $500 in retroactive special pay for each month they were affected by stop loss. Airmen have until Oct. 21 to apply through the Air Force Personnel Center. More

A coalition of veterans' service organizations won their case to force the VA to issue a final regulation authorizing payment of claims for ischemic heart disease, Parkinson's disease, or B-cell leukemia for any veteran who stepped foot in Vietnam during the war, or their survivors. More

Gulf War Illness Hearings Held
A subcommittee of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs recently conducted the third hearing in a series of Oversight and Investigations hearings focused on Gulf War Illness. More

Changes in Navy Tuition Program
The U.S. Navy recently changed its Tuition Assistance policy, which now grants funding on a first-come first-serve basis, with money that is replenished every fiscal quarter instead of each fiscal year. More

Child Care Fee Policy Announced
The Department of Defense has announced the school year 2010/2011 child care fee policy. Changes will impact families who have children enrolled in DoD child development centers and school age care programs. More

Family Loan Locker at Camp Lejeune
For the Marines, Sailors and their families who PCS to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, the Relocation Assistance Program offers the Loan Locker, a free service that accommodates families with the necessary items they will need for up to 30 days, or until all their household goods arrive. More

New AAFES Home Services
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service recently initiated its Exchange Home Services program. This new initiative allows military families in the continental United States to go online to compare local offerings for TV, internet and telephone, individually or bundled, to ensure they are receiving the best deals in their area. More

New Blog Launched
A new Defense Department blog seeks to bring "lessons learned" to an accessible online platform. Titled "In Their Own Words: Lessons Learned in Today's Military," the blog aims to provide a platform for servicemembers, veterans and families to share their thoughts and experiences on a variety of topics. More

Anti-Terrorism Awareness Month
The Department of the Army declared August 2010 as the Army's Anti-terrorism Awareness Month. During August, the Army will promote heightened awareness and vigilance. More

AAFES Patriotic Pet Contest
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is sponsoring the "Patriot Pet Just Say 'Treat'" photo contest for military pets and their owners. More
