Cell Phones for Soldiers

Cell Phones for Soldiers is calling on all Americans to support the troops by donating old cell phones. They hope to collect over 50,000 unused cell phones this year. Proceeds will be used to purchase calling cards for our troops so they can stay connected with their families. This program is sponsored by MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), Tucson Chapter.

“ SFC David Vazquez, Jerry Brittain, Center Director, Leslie Brittain, woman who inspired our scholarship, and Kay Gilpatrick, the winner of the MFSC “Five Minutes Longer” $1000.00 Scholarship. Kayla is the daughter of Lt. Col. Brian D. Gilpatrick of the Air Force. Kayla was ambitious enough to find this scholarship, qualify all the requirements, and put together an excellent essay regarding CPT Jack Jacobs, who during a firefight in Vietnam found inspiration from Jewish philosopher, Hilllel’s quote “If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?”. Kayla has been accepted by Kansas State University.

“Center Director Jerry Brittain presents the MFSC Patriot Award to SFC David Vazquez. The Patriot Award goes to an individual or organization that goes the extra mile that provides services, volunteering efforts, or giving their time to make life a little bit better for our military families. SFC Vazquez was selected as he has worked long and hard to make sure that he got the Humvees we need for our “Fill the Humvee projects, getting personnel we need for making the ball games and other events a class show, and being a counsel for us when we need information on protocol. David shows the very best of what is good about our military.”
